Beauts lose to Pride, with playoffs next

Jillian Dempsey scored a power-play goal with 4:25 left in the third period to give the first-place Boston Pride a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Beauts in their National Women’s Hockey League game on Sunday afternoon at HarborCenter. It was the final regular season game for the Beauts before the league playoffs begin next weekend. Brianne McLaughlin and league-best goaltender Brittany Ott started in goal for the respective teams Sunday afternoon.

The league-leading Pride earned the victory.

Hailey Browne notched the first goal of the game, putting the Beauts up 1-0 only 2:24 into the opening period. Tatiana Rafter and Megan Bozek assisted on the goal.

The Pride took a 2-1 lead on goals by Corinne Buie and Brianna Decker before the Beauts tied the game on a power-goal by Meghan Duggan, who deflected home a shot by Bozek.

This game leads both teams into the playoffs.

The Pride will play against the New York Riveters at home and the Beauts will play the Connecticut Whale on the road in a best-of-three postseason series.
