NIAGARA FALLS – A 55-year-old woman walking home to Niagara Falls, Ont., was assaulted and robbed Friday night in an alley off Fifth Street, police said.
The woman told police that she had been visiting the area and was walking toward the Rainbow Bridge around 8:30 p.m. when she “took a shortcut” between houses and ended up in an alley. At that point, a white male approached her asking for spare change. The man then hit her in the face, knocking her to the ground, before fleeing with her cellular telephone and $90 in cash.
The suspect was described as 30 to 40 years of age, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans with tan boots. He was last seen running southbound, police said. The victim was not seriously injured, and went to a nearby friend’s home to call police after the attack.
