Letter: Busing was first step in decline of schools

Busing was first step in decline of schools

There are a lot of things that contributed to the mess with the education system, with it always being short of money to keep it going. One of the biggest fiascoes that I think started the ball rolling was when a judge decided that kids would be better off if they were bused to other areas of the city for the sake of racial balancing.

I would also say that for what this has cost education, at least 15 new schools could have been built, and the children would have been able to walk to a school close to home. In my generation’s time, you were only allowed to attend a school in your neighborhood. There were no problems then, so why did things need to be changed?
