Kohl’s will close 18 of its department stores this year, the first time it has conducted store closures.
The company had a lackluster holiday season with just 0.4 percent sales growth, and said it anticipates slow sales in the months to come.
The list of stores on the chopping block has not been released, but company officials said they expect to have one within the next 30 days.
Kohl’s plans to open seven new, smaller-format stores this year, as well as 12 of its Fila sportswear outlets.
The company has 1,160 stores, including five in Western New York.
