Joseph M. Augustine of Amherst, a local attorney in private practice for more than 50 years, died Wednesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 83.
A North Tonawanda native, Mr. Augustine served as a staff sergeant and meteorologist in the Air Force from 1952 to 1955. He was a graduate of the University of Buffalo Law School.
He was a member of the Erie County Bar Association and a judge advocate of the Adam Plewacki Post 799, American Legion, Buffalo. He also was a member of McHall Hiking Club in Idaho, where he had a vacation home. Mr. Augustine traveled to more than 50 countries. He was a member of the former Buffalo Wine and Food Society, the former Chaine Des Rotisseurs and several gourmet clubs. Mr. Augustine enjoyed sports and watching his sons and grandson play hockey. He was a member of the former Buffalo Skate Club.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Diana C. Todaro; two sons, Paul and Mark; two brothers, Leonard and Richard; and six grandchildren.
Celebrations of his life will be held at a later date, both locally and in Boise, Idaho.
