Comedians to help raise funds for Lockport building restoration

LOCKPORT – Stand-up comedians Rob Lederman and Alan Benevento will headline a night of comedy to benefit Historic Lockport Mill Race, a not-for profit organization that aims to restore an old building beside the Erie Canal locks in Lockport.

The show is set for 8 p.m. March 12 in the Historic Palace Theatre, 2 East Ave.

The Mill Race group has its eyes on the Electric Building, so-called because it once housed an electric generating system powered by the flow of water through the canal. Originally, the 19th century structure was a nine-story building, although four floors were lopped off later on.

The group is trying to raise $20,000 to pay for a feasibility study of the building’s interior and exterior condition. Once that is done, the group has $300,000 in state money committed for the project itself.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. They are available at the Palace’s box office or website, Mills Jewelers, Lockport Dental Group and Great Lakes Surgical.
