Woman believed to be suicidal rescued at Terrapin Point

NIAGARA FALLS — A woman believed to be suicidal was rescued Wednesday afternoon after she fell into a wooded area on Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park, authorities said.

The 56-year-old woman from Niagara Falls, Ont. fell down an embankment from the upper trail at Terrapin Point just before 4 p.m., said State Parks Police Lt. Patrick Moriarty.

Rescuers were lowered by rope to the wooded area where they secured the woman and carried her down to the lower trail, he said. The rescue effort took about a half-hour, he said.

The woman was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for observation and treatment of hypothermia, Moriarty said.
