Stand still, at attention during national anthem
I am writing to comment on a trend in sports that has bothered me for a long time, but appears to have reached epidemic proportions. At a recent Sabres game, during the playing of the national anthem, the players were rocking from foot to foot throughout the entire anthem. At our game against Florida, we had a 90-year-old World War II veteran stand perfectly still at attention while the players fidgeted like 5-year-olds.
Is it too much to ask to show respect for our flag and our country by standing still? I’m sure if a 90-year-old can do it, then world-class athletes can control their energy for a few minutes and give our national anthem the attention and respect it deserves!
