FARMERSVILLE – A Farmersville couple was charged Wednesday by the Cattaraugus County SPCA with two counts each of animal cruelty for allegedly mishandling more than 600 dogs and other animals on the farm off Elton Road here.
Cynthia Nupp, an SPCA animal control officer, told The Buffalo News that Donald and Bonnie George have been ordered to appear in Farmersville Town Court at 7 p.m. March 8 to deal with the charges. A number of dogs on the farm were seized and the investigation of conditions for animals there are continuing, Nupp said.
A county highway worker reportedly alerted SPCA officials Saturday that he had seen a horse down in a field on the George property. That horse was euthanized and the State Police assisted SPCA workers Wednesday in taking a number of dogs from the farm. According to SPCA records in 2005 over 40 horses were taken from property owned by Bonnie George because of allegedly inhuman conditions they had been living under. The Cattaraugus County SPCA is asking the public for food donations to feed the animals found on the Farmersville farm. Calls can be made to the SPCA at 716-372-8492.
