Buffalo State: Buffalo State sophomore Connor Mergler (Williamsville North) was named the Team Unify/College Swimming Division III men’s national swimmer of the week and SUNYAC men’s swimmer of the week after winning three conference titles and setting five school records at the SUNYAC Championships. Mergler turned in times that rank among the top 10 in Division III this season in the 50 free (20.38, fifth-best), 100 free (44.74, sixth) and 200 free (1:39.08, ninth). He also was part of school-record performances in the 200 and 400 free relays. Next up are the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships March 16-19 in Greensboro, N.C. ... In men’s hockey, junior goaltender Mike DeLaVergne has been named first-team all-SUNYAC after a regular season in which he posted a .936 save percentage, a 1.97 goals-against average and set a school single-season mark with 14 wins. Senior forward Ryan Salkeld (14 goals, 13 assists) was named to the second team and junior forward Taylor Pryce to the third team. The Bengals (15-6-4) will host a conference tournament semifinal game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Daemen: Redshirt freshman guard Deion Hamilton was selected as East Coast Conference rookie of the week for the second time this season after averaging 18 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals as the Wildcats posted a 2-1 record last week. Daemen (17-8, 12-5) is tied for 10th in the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America East Region poll. The Wildcats are in second place in the conference and can clinch the No. 2 seed for the postseason tournament and a bye into the semifinals by winning one of their final two games, at Molloy on Friday and at Queens on Sunday.

D’Youville: Fourth-seeded D’Youville will host No. 5 Mount Aloysius at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s basketball tournament. The winner will play at top-seeded La Roche on Saturday.

Hilbert: The top-seeded Hawks (21-4, 15-3) await the result of Wednesday’s game between La Roche and Pitt-Bradford to learn their semifinal opponent in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference men’s basketball tournament at Hilbert this weekend. Wednesday’s other first-round game pits Medaille against Pitt-Greensburg, with the winner meeting No. 2 seed Penn State Behrend in the other semifinal. The semifinals will be at 1 p.m. (Hilbert) and 3:30 p.m. (Behrend) Saturday. The final is at 1 p.m. Sunday with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students with ID and free for those 10 and younger.

University at Buffalo: Nate Rose, a 197-pound wrestler hoping to represent his native Trinidad and Tobago in the Olympics, will participate in the Pan American Wrestling Championships this weekend in Frisco, Texas. He will return to Dr. Pepper Arena March 4-6 for the Panther American Olympic Games Qualifier. Rose participated at the World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas in September, compiling a 1-1 record. “I feel like wrestling in the World Championships will help me at the Pan Am Games,” Rose said. “I have a better understanding of the rules and how to earn points and that should help.” Rose and his family emigrated to the Bronx when he was 10.
