Cheektowaga man facing time in jail for forcible theft at convenience store

A Cheektowaga man was sentenced Monday to serve up to five months in county jail on his guilty plea to a petit larceny count in a forcible theft at a convenience store.

John R. Cosgrove, 31, of Dick Road, was arrested on Jan. 2 after stealing merchandise at the 7-Eleven at 755 Dick Road, Cheektowaga, where he gestured as if he was armed with a gun and then fought Cheektowaga police who were summoned to the scene, authorities said.

Cheektowaga Town Justice Paul S. Piotrowski imposed sentence on Cosgrove, who had been charged initially with robbery and resisting arrest.
