The historic seasons continue for both Buffalo State hockey programs as the men and women host playoff games for the first time in school history on Saturday.
The women, who earned the fourth seed in the ECAC West playoffs, will host No. 5 Oswego at 3 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.
The men received a first-round bye and will host the State University of New York Athletic Conference semifinals, playing at 7 p.m. Their opponent will be determined after Wednesday's quarterfinals.
On the women's side, the Bengals shattered the program record for wins in a season going 18-70 overall and 12-6-0 in conference play. The previous best for wins in a season was 11 in 2000-01 season. Sophomore Erin Gehen (West Seneca) leads the Bengals with 17 goals and 27 points followed by Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo) with 21 points and 10 goals. Meanwhile sophomore goalie Justine Silva has set a school record with 16 wins with a 1.57 goals against average and a .945 save percentage.
The men set a school record with 15 wins this season and their No. 2 seed is their highest ever finish in the SUNYAC regular season. The Bengals won their final six regular season games and nine out of their last 10 to earn a national ranking -- No. 15 in the latest D3Hockey.com national poll. Over the last 10 games Buffalo State has outscored opponents, 42-12.
Junior goaltender Mike DeLaVergne leads the conference with a .936 save percentage and a 1.97 goals against average along with setting the school record with 13 wins. Junior forward Taylor Pryce has 30 points with 15 goals while senior Ryan Salkeld has 27 points with 14 goals.
