NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – Niagara Parks Police lifted two 26-year-old men from the Niagara River Gorge after they became lost Sunday evening when darkness fell as they were hiking.
The men, who were identified only as international students, were pulled from the gorge by the Niagara Falls Fire Department Aerial One and members of the Niagara Parks Police High Angle Team after they were located about 7 p.m. along the gorge wall just south of Hubbard’s Point near River Road on the Canadian side of the river.
They were not injured.
Parks Police said the students had entered the gorge about 3 p.m. from the Niagara Parkway near Whirlpool Road. Police reminded those who hike in the gorge to stay on marked trails, walk only during daylight hours, walk with a friend and bring a cell phone.
