Where we live: City of Tonawanda

City of Tonawanda

The city has received a $100,000 grant from State Sen. Mark Panepinto’s office toward the intermodal hub planned for the Koenig Alley parking area behind the shops on Main Street, Mayor Rick Davis announced last week.

City officials have big plans to turn the 4-acre area into an intermodal hub, with bicycle racks, restrooms and changing areas. Bars and restaurants could add decks and patios to the rear of their establishments, and the area could attract food trucks, live music and perhaps an artisan market on weekends, Davis said. About 1 acre of the city-owned land would be reverted to parkland.

City officials on March 1 will go before the Buffalo & Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee to seek additional funding for the estimated $1 million project, he said.
