OLEAN – A tax assistance office manned by 27 St. Bonaventure University accounting students and staff and community volunteers is in operation at 807 W. State St. It is the 13th year in a row that the university has offered free tax services for qualified taxpayers, the United Way of Cattaraugus County announced Friday.
All those on hand to help taxpayers are IRS-trained and certified and are ready to assist persons of low and moderate incomes.
To qualify for the assistance, individuals must have a family income of less than $53,000 and be willing to submit to an entrance interview. Appointments are available Monday through Friday in the afternoon and early evening.
Appointments can be made by calling 372-2534. Each applicant must bring a valid picture ID, Social Security cards, all W-2 forms and Form 1099.
The program will operate through April 15.
For anyone with incomes less than $62,000 per year, the United Way and the H&R Block have partnered with the IRS to offer free online tax preparation services utilizing H&R Block software.
