Falls garage burglar goes to prison

LOCKPORT – Franklin D. Mease Jr., 31, of Whitney Avenue, Niagara Falls, on Friday became the second man to go to state prison for a Dec. 9, 2014, burglary at a garage behind the Niagara Buy & Sell pawn shop on Third Street in the Falls.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon gave Mease one to three years in prison. Last month, she gave Jacob A. Harbaugh, 25, of Niagara Avenue, 1½ to three years, and sentencing is still pending for Michael S. Dubuc, 37, of Hyde Park Boulevard. All three pleaded guilty to reduced charges of attempted third-degree burglary.

Another Falls burglar received better news Friday. Lance E. Herie, 41, of 17th Street, successfully completed the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment, and his felony pleas were reduced to a misdemeanor, second-degree criminal trespass. Judge Matthew J. Murphy III can give him probation or a conditional discharge April 7. Herie sought to steal copper from two vacant commercial buildings in the Falls in 2011 and 2012.
