Convenience store opens in News building

Grab and Go, new convenience store, has opened in the first floor of the Buffalo News building at the corner of Washington and Scott Streets.

The roughly 400-square-foot store carries fresh coffee, cold drinks, greeting cards, gift wrap, snacks, magazines and serves hot pizza from Mister Pizza. There is also an ATM machine. The store entrance is located on Washington Street.

The store originally opened in 2000 in what was then the HSBC tower. In Nov. 2013, it moved to the HSBC Atrium, which served employees there but was closed to the general public.

Owner Ahmed Alhadhari said he made the move to the current location to take advantage of the increased foot traffic in downtown Buffalo. He said he has noticed traffic picking up over the past three years and expects it to grow even more.

“Every day there are more and more people down here,” said owner Ahmed Alhadhari. “It’s a great location.”

Grab and Go is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and later during special events downtown. During the summer, the store will also have weekend hours.
