Two goals in the first five minutes of the third period broke a 2-2 tie and pushed Sacred Heart past Canisius on Friday night in an Atlantic Hockey matchup at HarborCenter.
Jordan Minello’s back-hander with 15:46 left gave Sacred Heart (11-16-4 overall, 9-13-3 AHC) a 4-2 lead and proved to be the game-winner. Canisius cut the deficit to 4-3 on Shane Conacher’s 19th goal of the season with 12:08 remaining, but the Griffs were unable to get the equalizer. Conacher’s goal gave him 100 career points, making him the 10th player in the school’s Division I history to reach that milestone. The Golden Griffins (10-16-5, 10-10-5) went 0 for 6 on the power play.
“Sacred Heart came into our building and outplayed us,” Canisius coach Dave Smith said.
The two teams conclude the two-game series at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at HarborCenter.
