Amherst AutoZone project gets approval

The Amherst Planning Board on Thursday approved plans for a new AutoZone Inc. store on Sheridan Drive, as well as several residential development projects.

Planners gave the go-ahead for plans by Robert Nuchereno of Arista Development to demolish the 9,000-square-foot western portion of a retail strip center at 3311 Sheridan that used to house the now-closed Markheim Pets and replace it with a freestanding 6,800-square-foot retail building for the national auto parts chain. The new building would be separate from the rest of the facility, which would not be changed.

The board also approved proposals by:

• Sutton Architects, for a new single-story senior townhouse building at 9530 Transit Road, with eight units and 16 parking spaces.

• Elite Construction Development Co., for a new 12-lot subdivision at 4176, 4180, 4184 and 4188 Sheridan.

• Homebuilder Elliot Lasky, for the 10-lot Lake Forest North Phase V subdivision at 1047 Campbell Blvd.

Additionally, the board recommended Town Board approval of a rezoning request by Dr. Fadi Dagher for 9150 Transit Road, to allow for construction of multiple high-end condos.
