It took a decade to rid society of the crack epidemic, Sen. Charles Schumer said Thursday in Buffalo, and he does not want to wait that long for opiates.
The senator, speaking at Horizon Health Services, called for $600 million to be spent on treatment facilities, cops and presentment, with some of that coming locally.
Schumer urged Congress to walk the walk and allocate the money. “It’s an emergency,” he said.
Anne Constantino of Horizon, who spoke with Schumer, said there have been more than 400 opiate deaths in last two years in Erie County.
