Todd Rundgren apparently likes the crowd at the Riviera Theatre. And vice versa.
According to the folks at historic North Tonawanda venue, “popular demand” from fans who either caught his last show there and wanted more, or missed it and demanded a do-over, is the impetus behind their booking a return trip. “An Evening with Todd Rundgren” has been confirmed for the Riv at 8 p.m. May 19.
Rundgren has been including Buffalo in his tour itineraries since the 1970s, and along the way, he’s played just about every imaginable venue in town, from the old Century Theatre to Kleinhans, the Tralf to the Town Ballroom, and the Bear’s Den to Canalside.
However, his December stop at the Riviera was his debut performance at that storied venue, a theater perfectly suited to Rundgren’s cult legend status and penchant for finely detailed, sonically adventurous concert presentations. Unsurprisingly, that December show sold out, and in the event, was a jubilant affair for “Todd-heads”.
An artist pre-sale for the Rundgren show will run from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Thursday through the website tr-1.com. A pre-sale for Riviera Theatre members will run during that same period, through RivieraTheatre.org.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday through RivieraTheatre.org and at the venue’s box office. All tickets for the reserved seating show are priced $41.50, and there is an eight-ticket limit per person.
