Canisius: Freshman Dylan McLaughlin (Lancaster) was named NCAA Third Star of the Week and Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week after producing six assists in a weekend two-game sweep of Bentley. McLaughlin leads Griffs’ freshmen with 23 points on six goals and 17 assists and has points in five straight games and nine of his last 10. Additionally, Jimmy Mazza of Canisius was named Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week and Felix Chamberland was honored as rookie of the week. Mazza made his first career goal the winner in a 3-1 victory in the series opener. Chamberland totaled two goals and one assist on the weekend. … In softball, sophomore Moriah Harris (Clarence) was selected as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Harris went 6 for 12 with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs in four games last week.
Hilbert: Something has to give Wednesday night when the second-place Hawks, the top scoring team in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, entertain first-place Penn St.-Behrend, the league’s top defensive team, in men’s basketball. Tipoff is 6 p.m. at the Hafner Recreation Center. Hilbert (19-4, 13-3) has won six straight and is looking to avenge a 69-58 loss to Behrend on Jan. 18. The Hawks are averaging 87.8 points and have three players − Jerame Owens, Sean Weisansal (Maryvale) and Jalen Smith − ranked among the conference’s top 15 scorers. Behrend is allowing 58.1 points per game.
