Fire in North Buffalo home causes $70,000 in damage

A suspected chimney fire Sunday evening caused $70,000 in damage at a home in North Buffalo, officials said.

Buffalo firefighters were called at 8 p.m. to 326 Voorhees Avenue, at the corner of Tacoma Avenue, for a report of a chimney fire in the 2½-story occupied home.

The fire extended into the home’s walls and up to its second-floor and finished attic, officials said.

The fire was brought under control by about 8:40 p.m. Damage was estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents.

The official cause remains under investigation.
