LOCKPORT – A man who has been indicted for burglarizing his mother’s home in North Tonawanda is seeking drug treatment through the court system.
Luke P. Brown, 24, now living in a halfway house in Buffalo, was arraigned Thursday in Niagara County Court on charges of third-degree burglary and petit larceny. Assistant District Attorney Cheryl L. Nichols said Brown allegedly stole $140 in the Aug. 1 burglary.
Assistant Public Defender Michael E. Benedict said Brown wants to be screened for the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment. That would require him to plead guilty as charged and risk a state prison sentence of up to seven years if he can’t beat drugs in the two-year drug court program. Brown is to return to court Feb. 25 to potentially enter the plea.
