Jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, handsome and well-coiffed, has his own unique warmth. Every time he comes to Kleinhans Music Hall he packs the place, and with reason.
“He puts his all into everything he does,” The News observed the last time he was here, joining the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for a concert in 2014. “He played ‘Time To Say Goodbye” as if it were taps, with emotion and gravity. He also had a beautiful take on Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah,’ a signature number of his. ‘La Belle Dame Sans Regrets,’ written by Sting ... Miles Davis’ “Flamenco Sketches” ... The night went by fast.”
Botti is today’s elegant answer to vaudeville. He entertains, he tells stories, he introduces constant guest stars, and he keeps the evening moving along smoothly. It’s all polished and lovely as he pours out smooth jazz numbers like “When I Fall in Love,” “The Very Thought Of You,” even Schubert’s “Ave Maria.” He is sure to radiate charms for his Valentine’s visit to the BPO at 8 p.m. Feb. 13 in Kleinhans Music Hall. Tickets are $49.50-$109.50. For info, call 885-5000.
