Akeel Lynch leaves Penn State, joins fellow Frannie Brian Polian at Nevada

Penn State running back Akeel Lynch will transfer to Nevada for his final college football season, he announced Wednesday.

Lynch, the former St. Francis High School great, announced in January he would leave Penn State. He earned his degree and has one year of eligibility left as a graduate student.

Lynch will join up with Nevada coach Brian Polian, himself a St. Francis High School graduate.

Lynch opened the season as the lead back for the Nittany Lions but saw his playing time reduced with the emergence of true freshman Saquon Barkley, a top California recruit. Barkley rushed for 1,076 yards. Lynch finished the season with 55 carries for 282 yards and two touchdowns. For his career at Penn State, Lynch gained 1,318 rushing yards and had seven touchdowns.

Nevada graduated star running back Don Jackson. Lynch figures to form a two-headed RB tandem with Nevada junior James Butler, who rushed for 1,345 yards last season.
