Buffalo State: Buffalo State junior captain Viivi Vaattovaara, a defenseman from Finland, was named to the Women’s National Team of the Week for her role in the Bengals’ two-game women’s hockey sweep of Oswego. Vaattovaara produced an assist in a series-opening 3-1 victory then scored her first goal and added another assist as the Bengals completed the sweep, 2-0. Buffalo State (15-4, 9-3 in the ECAC West), is home to nationally ranked Elmira at 4 p.m. Friday.

Hilbert: Jarame Owens, a 6-foot-6 senior forward from Spencerport, will depart after this season with his name all over the school’s basketball record book. Within a few days Owens, already a 1,500-point career scorer, became the first Hawk to reach 1,000 career rebounds and moved into the top spot on the all-time steals chart with 192. Hilbert is 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. … Meanwhile, Sean Weisansal, a senior guard out of Maryvale, set the Hilbert single-game assist mark with 16 in a 108-66 dismantling of Franciscan.

Sage: Ryan Guyton, a sophomore from Lockport, was selected the Skyline Conference Player of the Week in men’s volleyball. Guyton ranks first in the conference in service aces (24), fifth in total points (90.5) and sixth in total kills (60).
