NIAGARA FALLS – For the second year in a row, Niagara Falls International Airport set a record for passengers leaving on outbound flights, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority reported Tuesday.
Last year, 118,154 people boarded planes at the airport, an increase of 12.24 percent over 2014, which also was a record year. In total, 233,302 outbound and inbound passengers used the airport in 2015. Canadians account for 79 percent of the travelers, the NFTA said.
Allegiant Air carried 69,590 of the outbound fliers to three destinations in Florida – Orlando/Sanford, Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg and Punta Gorda/Fort Myers. The airport’s other carrier, Spirit Airlines, took 48,564 passengers to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
