John J. “Jack” Helinski, of Clarence, a retired Internal Revenue Service representative, died unexpectedly Friday in Buffalo General Medical Center. He was 69.
Born in Lackawanna, he was a 1964 graduate of Baker Victory High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Canisius College.
Mr. Helinski worked for Nabisco in Buffalo as a cost control supervisor, then was a customer service representative for the IRS for 25 years, retiring in 2010.
He loved music and was a dedicated fan of Elvis Presley. He collected Presley’s records and films and wrote about him for Gold Mine magazine.
He also was a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and held Buffalo Sabres season tickets. He enjoyed entering contests and frequently won tickets and other prizes. Once, he won a trip for himself and his wife to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, the former Diane Wojciechowski; and a daughter, Denise Marie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Crocker and Reiman streets, Sloan.
