BNRinkside: No change in top three of college hockey poll

The top three teams remained unchanged in the latest Men's Division I poll. Quinnipiac is the overall No. 1 followed by North Dakota and St. Cloud State.

On my ballot, the top three also remained the same but in different order -- North Dakota, St. Cloud State then Quinnipiac. The Fighting Hawks swept Western Michigan while Quinnpiac tied Rensselaer and beat Dartmouth. Four points trumps three. At least for me and at least for this weekend.

Meanwhile Notre Dame had its 12 game unbeaten streak snapped with a 4-0 loss to Boston College.

Impressive results include Michigan Tech (which also got tons of publicity this week as John Scott's alma mater) which took three points from Bowling Green and is now undefeated in its last six games. Also on the rise is Dartmouth, now 11-9-1 and tied for 15th in the Pairwise, that mathematical formula which determines the NCAA at-large tournament field.

Programs trending in the wrong direction include Penn State, which was swept by Michigan and has lost its last three. Cornell lost overtime games to both Clarkson and St. Lawrence and is now winless in its last six.

My ballot:

1. North Dakota
2. St. Cloud State
3. Quinnipiac
4. Boston College
5. Harvard
6. Nebraska-Omaha
7. Michigan
8. Providence
9. Boston University
10. Yale
11. Notre Dame
12. UMass-Lowell
13. Denver
14. Rensselaer
15. Michigan Tech
16. Penn State
17. Minnesota State
18. Bowling Green
19. Dartmouth
20. Cornell
