ST. BONAVENTURE – St. Bonaventure got 26 points from senior guard Marcus Posley and picked up its defense in the second half to defeate Richmond, 84-68 Sunday.
The Bonnies trailed, 39-33, at intermission and allowed Richmond to shoot 50 percent in the first half.
But senior forward Dion Wright spearheaded tough interior defense in the second half. Bona held Richmond to just 27 percent shooting the final 20 minutes and outscored the Spiders, 51-29.
The win improved the Bonnies to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Richmond fell to 11-9 and 3-5.
Bona got 19 points and 14 rebounds from Wright, who defended Terry Allen, Richmond’s star forward. Allen was held to 12 points.
Guard Jay Adams scored 18 points and forward Denzel Gregg added 10 for the Bonnies.
Richmond entered the game ranked first in the A-10 in field-goal shooting, averaging 51.2 percent, and third in scoring, at 81.6 points a game.
Junior forward T.J. Cline led Richmond with 20 points.
Blocks: Freshman big man Jordan Tyson was a good inside presence for Bona, contributing five blocks and four rebounds.
Up next: Bona visits St. Joe's on Wednesday. St. Louis is 8-13 and 3-6 in conference.
