William C. Kelly, mechanical and product engineer

June 13, 1940 – Jan. 28, 2016

William C. Kelly, a mechanical and product engineer, died Thursday at his Getzville home after a long illness. He was 75.

Mr. Kelly was born in Buffalo and graduated from California Polytechnic State University.

As part of his Army service from 1963 to 1968, he guarded the helicopter used by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Mr. Kelly worked for many years as a mechanical engineer and product engineer for Westinghouse Corp. and then Bell Aircraft, followed by a number of other temporary positions until his retirement in 2001.

He was a member of the Getzville Volunteer Fire Co., where he served as financial secretary for 13 years. He also was a member of A.J. Jurek American Legion Post 1672.

Survivors include his wife, the former Joanne Fox; a stepdaughter, Donna Paulin; a stepson, Carl Schaab Jr.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Amherst Chapel of Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive.
