Two teens injured in crash with state plow in Amherst

Two people were injured in a crash early Friday morning in Amherst involving a state snowplow.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m. on Sheridan Drive between North Forest Road and Mill Street, Amherst police said.

A vehicle driving west on Sheridan moved across the center turn lane into the eastbound lanes and hit one of three plow trucks, police said. The plow driver, Alan Mages of Amherst, was not hurt.

Macayl J. Kunkle, 16, of Amherst, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered a fractured vertebrae and a cut to his forehead. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center, along with the driver, Alexander M. Leone, 18, of Amherst.

Leone was issued tickets for failure to keep right and moving from a lane unsafely.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, police said.
