A 20-year-old City of Tonawanda man who crashed into an empty warehouse about 5 p.m. Friday told police he had just been “going way too fast” while taking driving lessons.
Micah D. Ashford was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, having no driver’s license, imprudent speed and unsafe tires. The accident happened near the old BJ’s Wholesale Club building on Young Street.
Neither Ashford nor a 17-year-old girl who was his passenger was hurt in the crash.
Capt. Frederick Foels of the City of Tonawanda Police Department said witnesses told officers Ashford was driving at a high speed in a Young Street parking lot and his vehicle became airborne before sliding on top of a guardrail and vaulting into the wall of the warehouse.
