Letter: Race shouldn’t be issue in Oscar nominations

Race shouldn’t be issue in Oscar nominations

I recently saw Robin Roberts interview Will Smith about the lack of diversity surrounding the Academy Awards. She asked Smith if he was upset because he was not nominated for the movie “Concussion.” He graciously replied that he had been previously nominated for two Academy Awards, losing to Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker, two of my personal favorite actors. What more could he say?

Actors should prefer to be nominated and win “based upon the content of their character and not the color of their skin,” to paraphrase the great Martin Luther King Jr.
