Stefan Sanders, the new associate conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, has another post as well. He is the new music director of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra. And at 4 p.m. Jan. 31, he leads the GBYO in its winter concert, at Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall on the University at Buffalo’s North Campus.
The concert features Rimsky-Korsakov’s colorful “Scheherazade,” whose rich orchestration will put the kids through their paces. Mozart’s jingly Overture to “The Abduction From the Seraglio” adds to the exotic Middle Eastern feel. To complete the concert, Jonathan Kim, a senior at Williamsville North, will perform the first movement of Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and are available at the door. For info, visit gbyo.net.
