Niagara Falls man running down street with shotgun accused of burglary

NIAGARA FALLS – A man seen running with a shotgun in the area of Linwood and Michigan avenues on Tuesday afternoon faces charges, including burglary, grand larceny and weapons possession.

Witnesses told police they saw a man with the shotgun under his jacket just after 2 p.m. Officers caught up to Robert L. Shimmel, 34, in the 1300 block of Michigan, and located a 12-gauge shotgun in the brush in an open area behind homes on Michigan, according to Niagara Falls police reports.

Other witnesses told police that Shimmel, of Willow Avenue, was in a home on Linwood just before 2 p.m. and that the premises had been burglarized. A shotgun and an Xbox video game system had been taken from the home, the reports said.

He was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree possession of stolen property, petit larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.
