BATAVIA – A murder charge lodged by police against Christina M. Colantonio, 28, who was accused of killing a newborn child and leaving its body in a cooler at her Liberty Street home last summer has been dismissed, Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman announced Wednesday.
Colantonio was arrested last Aug. 29 and released from jail on Sept. 1 after the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office announced that it could not determine whether the baby had been born alive. Police found the body about three months after the infant was born. Friedman said a medical expert reported that the baby had been “most likely stillborn and that the baby most likely had a congenital malformation or deformation.”
Colantonio has two living children.
The district attorney said his office would not make any further comments on the case to protect “the rights of an individual who is not going to be prosecuted.”
