The upwardly mobile career of former University at Buffalo athletics director Warde Manuel has reached what seems like its inevitable apex.
Manuel is moving from his job as AD at the University of Connecticut to take the AD job at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, according to multiple media reports. The Boston Globe, Detroit Free-Press and numerous others have reported the hiring.
Manuel played defensive tackle for legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler from 1986 to 1989. He was UB athletics director from 2005 to 2012. His big hire at UB was bringing Turner Gill to coach football. Manuel was named UConn AD in February 2012. UConn won the NCAA men's basketball title in 2014. Dave Brandon, also a former Michigan football player, resigned as Michigan AD in October 2014. Dave Hackett served as interim AD since Brandon left, but Hackett was not interested in the job on a permanent basis.
