Lockport man avoids jail in DWI crash

LOCKPORT – A City of Lockport man avoided jail time Tuesday in connection with a June 13 Pendleton crash caused by drunken driving.

Thomas J. Elberson Jr., 31, of Akron Street, was placed on three years’ probation and assessed $930 in fines and fees by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr.

Elberson’s pickup truck struck a parked vehicle on Bear Ridge Road. His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.17 percent in his second alcohol-related conviction, but he successfully completed a rehabilitation program since the arrest.

A probation officer recommended a conditional discharge for Elberson, but Kloch said he thought probation supervision would do him more good in the long run.
