Heussy Avenue man arrested with stolen handgun

A 20-year-old Heussy Avenue man who ran on Bailey Avenue near McKinley Parkway as a police officer approached him about 4 p.m. Monday was arrested near his home after the officer found him tossing away a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Dequan Huggins was charged with felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property after the handgun was confirmed to have been reported stolen on Grand Island in 2014.

As Huggins was being arrested, Zenora Abernathy, 26, and Patrick St. Johns, 20, both of Heussy Avenue, were arrested after both of them refused to get away from the patrol car where Huggins was being held, police said. Those two men are charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
