Child shot when gunman opens fire into Jamestown home

A 10-year-old child was struck by gunfire after someone opened fire several times into a home on East Second Street in Jamestown Monday night, Jamestown police said.

The child initially was taken to WCA Hospital and has since been transferred to Women & Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

Police refused to release the name or even gender of the child Tuesday morning, and would not say what the child’s condition was.

“We’re not going to release that information at this point,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson.

The shooting took place at 9:20 p.m. Monday at 411 E. Second.

The gunman shot several times through a first-floor window and the child was struck.

“The shots came from outside the residence,” Samuelson said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 483-7537. Anonymous tips can also be left at the police confidential tip line at 483-TIPS (8477).
