The Amherst Youth Foundation will sponsor the 7th annual Walk for Melissa set for 6 p.m. Sunday at the Boulevard Mall.
The event is in honor of Melissa Reed Chudy, who served as development director for the Amherst Youth Foundation. She died in 2006, following an 18-month battle with breast cancer. Those who knew her recall Chudy’s passion and drive to help young people in her community. Even after her diagnosis, they said, Chudy continued to come to work each day with a sense of enthusiasm and determination.
Her hope and vision remain in a coffee house that now bears her name, Melissa’s Coffee House, 5005 Sheridan Drive, Williamsville.
Chudy also played a strong role in the creation of the Amherst Youth and Family Center.
There is a $15 minimum donation to participate in the walk. Check-in for the event will begin at 5 p.m.
To register or donate online, visit www.AmherstYouthFoundation.org. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Melissa’s Coffee House and a donation will be made to support breast cancer research.
