National Guard offers emergency preparedness training in Lockport

LOCKPORT – Troops of the New York National Guard will conduct a free disaster preparedness course from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lockport Public Library, 23 East Ave. The workshop is free, and no advance sign-up is needed.

National Guard members, working with the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and local emergency personnel, have been holding these courses statewide since February 2014. More than 54,000 citizens have participated, according to the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs.

Topics will include developing a family emergency plan, stocking up on supplies and registering for NY-Alert, the statewide emergency alert system.
