Letter: Let county residents vote on 2 a.m. bar closing plan

Let county residents vote on 2 a.m. bar closing plan

Here we go again. It’s politics as usual regarding the 2 a.m. bar closing. The Erie County Legislature majority leader was so quick to vote no on this issue, you have to wonder why? Do two bar owners have that much influence?

A poll recently conducted at the request of the Erie County clerk is said to be biased. Tell that to residents of the University and Elmwood districts and other areas of Buffalo and Erie County. A least we have several legislators coming to their senses; you have to wonder about the other four.

Why not have a referendum on the issue and let the citizens of Erie County decide at the ballot box? Bars could close at 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Are some of our elected officials scared the proposal might pass?
