A man who drove away early Sunday when police tried to stop his Jeep, threw drugs from the window and then ran after crashing it faces felony and misdemeanor charges.
Police said Joshua Copeland, 27, no address given, fled in his Jeep from police who tried to stop him at Genesee and Mills streets shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.
They said he threw crack cocaine out of the window at Best and Rich streets., then crashed the vehgicle at Olympc and Warwick avenue, near the Kensington Expressway.
Police said Copeland ran from the scene of the crash and was caught a short distance away. They also said Xanax and marijuana were found in the center console of his vehicle.
Copeland was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; unlawfully fleeing a police officier in a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree obstructing governmental administartaion, all of them class A misdemeanors; as well as unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and reckless driving.
