The public will get a chance to meet the new director of the Grand Island Memorial Library, Patricia Covley, at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the meeting room at the library, 1715 Bedell Road. Covley, who has worked with the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library system since 1987, has been director of the East Delavan Branch Library in Buffalo and most recently was division manager for information services. She succeeds Lynn Konovitz, who retired in December after serving as director of the Grand Island library since 1984.
• The Grand Island Alumni Association hosts its ninth annual comedy night Friday evening in Ellden’s at River Oaks, 201 Whitehaven Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. The show, featuring actor and comedian Jeff Pirrami and two local comedians, begins at 8. Dinner reservations are required from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20. Proceeds benefit GI Alumni scholarships. Tickets are available at Aceti’s Wine and Spirits in Tops Plaza, Grand Island Boulevard and Whitehaven Road, and at deSignet Jewelry, 1869 Whitehaven Road.
• Wednesday at noon is the deadline for volunteers to submit letters of interest for several openings on town advisory boards. They include one seat on the Conservation Board, four seats on the Economic Development Board and two seats on the Traffic Safety Board.
