Falls shoplifting suspect charged with robbery in scuffle with employee

NIAGARA FALLS – A routine shoplifting case escalated into a robbery charge against a Lewiston woman Friday after she fought a store employee trying to detain her, Niagaera Falls police said.

Carly G. McEvoy, 25, of Creek Road Extension, is charged her with petit larceny and third-degree robbery. Police said that an employee followed her about 10 a.m. as she left the Tops store on Niagara Falls Boulevard with three lobster tails worth $73. As the employee closed in on the suspect, police said, a scuffle ensued and McEvoy claimed she was armed with a knife.
