WHEATFIELD – A 49-year-old of Wheatfield man who crashed his car in woods off Witmer Road in the town early Thursday evening is being held without bail on assault and other charges,.
Jeffrey W. Brown, who had already been a suspect in a Wheatfield assault incident early Thursday morning, drove off as sheriff’s deputies tried to stop him at about 6:20 p.m. Thursday on Ward Road. He was arrested after he crashed his car off Witmer Road minutes later.
Brown was charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and a number of vehicle and traffic charges. The investigation of both the assault and the early-evening activities is continuing and he may be facing additional charges, deputies said. He is due in Pendleton Town Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
