Lockport police said they stepped up patrols near North Park Middle School and nearby Anna Merritt Elementary School on Friday after a report that a suspicious man in a dark colored van had tried to flag down a student that morning.
Police said there was no actual contact and the student quickly ran into the school for help. The school then contacted police.
According to a report released by the local web news site, East Niagara Post, administrators were contacted by email by Lockport City Schools District Superintendent Michelle Bradley. They were given a description of the man as a white male in his early 50s with gray and black hair and a beard. He was driving an older black cargo van when he attempted to lure the student into the vehicle. The man had reportedly held up a clear plastic bag.
Bradley was not available for comment.
